Fight against galamsey is still alive – Dep. Lands Minister

A Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Benito Owusu Bio has dismissed claims by a section of the Ghanaian public that government’s galamsey fight is becoming an absurd pretence .

“It’s one of the move by government that we should never think nor say that it has failed. No need to lose hope. Where lies our future if we lose hope now. I admit that yes, in fighting the menace we’ve had challenges; [But] as i speak, my minister have started mobilizing all over again. The ministry is hitting areas that didn’t get initial response and coming in the forefront” he said on ‘Pure Morning Drive’ with Kwame Adinkra.

Mr. Owusu Bio further stated that, sustainably the Ministry will regulate mining and train small scale miners to be able to handle equipment and do their job such that society is not affected.

Outlining some achievements made in the fight against illegal mining, he says specifically the fight has yielded results observable along various parameters despite few challenges.

He explained that government remains committed to the fight against illegal mining popularly known as galamsey.
