I still want to be President – Addai Nimo

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Mampong, Francis Addai Nimoh, has declared his intention to contest presidential candidacy position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) when the party invites nominations.

On ‘Pure Morning Drive’ with Kwame Adinkrah on Tuesday, Addai Nimo stated that he has not given up his presidential ambition.

“I still have presidential ambition. I mean I still want to be president. I’m lacing up my boots to compete for that position when the right opportunity presents itself. So yes Kwame, when the time comes I’ll avail myself”, he noted when asked if he still has presidential ambition.

The embattled former MP further stated that he still qualify to contest and also become president and is only motivated by his leadership style and qualities

that ‘same people who rejected me are yearning for my return’.

Parliamentary Primaries

Reacting to allegations by the incumbent MP, Hon. Sarpong Ampratwum that he sent supporters to attack persons at the party office, Addai Nimo noted that “First of all let me apologize for that sad incident but I’m a very calm person who cannot hurt a fly not to talk of sending tags to attack others. I know my opponent will tag me in such act just to dent my image, but this won’t wash”.

When queried whether his presence in the contest is creating fear and panic to his opponent, he responded:

“Kwame, I cannot tell whether or not my presence in this contest is creating any sort of panic. [But] after comparing my style of leadership to others, maybe my constituents and delegates have seen the clear distinction in terms of leadership qualities that I offered as MP during my time. So yes, it may create some sort fear but I believe in equal level competition” he added.

Francis Addai Nimoh has filed nomination forms to contest the NPP parliamentary primaries for Mampong constituency again. The form which was submitted at the party’s constituency office was rejected by the constituency executives, sparking an uproar which resulted in five persons sustaining severe injuries.

The national executives of the party who were saddened by such occurrence stepped in and calm nerves, requesting Addai Nimo to file his nomination at the National Headquarters of the party. The Ashanti Regional Executives of the party also moved to save the situation from getting out of hands and also offered Addai Nimo a chance to submit his nomination forms at the regional headquarters, a request he gladly honored.

Mr. Addai Nimoh served the people of Mampong constituency as MP from January 7, 2013 to January 6, 2017.

He lost the party’s parliamentary primaries after a failed attempt to become the NPP’s Presidential candidate for the 2016 general elections which saw the likes of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, now President of the Republic, and several others.
