Stop the unnecessary tribal politics – TNC warns NDC

The Teachers and Nurses Caucus (TNC), in the Agona West Constituency of Central Region, has issued a word of caution to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to stop playing what they term as ‘tribal politics’ within the constituency.

The caucus suggested that the NDC in Agona West are engaging in an unnecessary tribal politics, which they believe is alien to them, and has the potential to erode the peace in the traditional area, the constituency and the region as a whole.

A statement signed and issued by Felix Owusu-Tawiah, President of the TNC Caucus, said, “we therefore condemn in no uncertain terms, the tribal cards being played by the NDC in Agona West against Hon. Cynthia M. Morrison. Hon. Cynthia M. Morrison has lived with us, married one of us and contributed socially, economically and politically to the development of Agona and for that matter Agona West. She is and has been one of us (Agona)”.

While the caucus regards Cynthia Morrison as an indigene, the Agona Swedru branch of the NDC thinks otherwise.

The Teachers and Nurses Caucus argued that Agona Swedru would be a ghost district should all non-Agona indigenes leave for their various towns and villages.

They also asserted that the NDC’s plan to prevent the MP for the constituency from registering at Akyiase, because she is not an indigene, promotes division and tribalism which should not be entertained by Ghanaians.

Prior to this statement, the NDC in the Agona West Constituency had challenged Cynthia Morrison’s residential status and for which reason they petitioned the EC to retrieve the MP’s voter card.

Statement from the TNC further described the actions of the NDC against the Agona West MP as unfortunate, un-Ghanaian and ancient thereby, calling for an immediate end to similar actions.

The TNC called on chiefs, queen mothers, religious leaders, local peace council and other stakeholders in the constituency to also add their voice in condemning the act.

They urged chiefs and elders within Agona Swedru to disassociate themselves from such outmoded and anti-development politics going on within the constituency.

Additionally, the Teachers and Nurses Causes called on ‘Nananom’ and the Elders of the land to play active roles in curtailing similar actions they referred to as unpatriotic tactics.
