Group Head of Investor Relations at AngloGold Ashanti, Stewart Bailey, has related that the mining giant is looking for a new partner to help re-develop the Obuasi mine after one of its partners, Randgold backed out of an agreement to re-develop the concession.
According to Mr. Bailey, though the pull-out of Randgold is unfortunate, AngloGold Ashanti would not fold up operations in the country.
He added that though illegal mining activities also continue to be a bother, the company will still operate in the country.
He said the firm is working to resolve the challenges.
The firm has been forced to shut down part of its operations at the mine and has also asked some staff to go home after the death of the company’s Communications Manager.
