A 40-year-old woman, Theresa Sungbung, has been remanded into police custody by the Damongo Circuit Court after she was arrested for allegedly attempting to bribe police officers with GH¢300,000.
The accused was arrested on July 13, 2026, at the Banda-Nkwanta Police Checkpoint with 84 parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
She was arraigned before the Damongo Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Livingston Lartey Yao Ameevor, and remanded to reappear on July 28, 2026.
According to Bole District Police Commander ASP Mahadi Mensah, the police are working to arrest other persons believed to be connected to the case.
He said the accused claimed she was transporting the substances to Signye, an illegal mining site in the Bole District, before proceeding to the Upper West Region to deliver another consignment.
ASP Mensah urged commercial drivers to be cautious about the passengers they transport and the items they carry to avoid becoming involved in criminal activities unknowingly.
