U.S reduces business and tourism visa validity from 5 years to 3 months

The United States has officially reduced the validity period of its B1/B2 visa for Ghanaian nationals from five years to just three months, with a single entry permitted.

The change, which took effect this week, means that new Ghanaian applicants seeking to travel to the U.S. for business (B1) or tourism (B2) will now be issued visas valid for only 3 months. Unlike the previous policy that allowed multiple entries within a five-year period, the new rule grants only a one-time entry within the shorter validity window.

The U.S. Embassy has advised applicants to take note of the adjustment and plan their travel accordingly. The decision forms part of a visa policy revision that aligns with the principle of reciprocity, where visa rules mirror those of the applicant’s home country for U.S. citizens.

Ghanaians planning to visit the U.S. are encouraged to confirm visa requirements before applying, as the updated policy significantly impacts long-term travel plans.
