The Tema Regional Police Command has secured the conviction of two men involved in a violent robbery and rape incident that occurred along the Apollonia–Afienya road on September 27, 2025.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 7, the police said the attack targeted a 19-year-old hairdresser who had hired one of the suspects, Nicholas Tetteh, as a commercial motor rider to transport her to Afienya.
During the journey, Tetteh allegedly conspired with two accomplices, including Joseph Tetteh, to ambush the victim.
“Investigations revealed that the victim was dragged into a nearby bush, where she was sexually assaulted by two of the suspects. They also took her iPhone XR and handbag containing GH¢150,” the statement said.
The victim later reported the incident to the Zenu–Atadeka District Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), where she received medical attention and provided her statement to investigators.
Swift police action led to the arrest of the suspects, who were subsequently charged with robbery and rape. They were arraigned before the Gbetsile Circuit Court, presided over by Her Ladyship Eleanor Kakra Barns Botchway.
“They pleaded guilty to the robbery charge and were each sentenced to fifteen (15) years imprisonment with hard labour,” the police confirmed.
The statement added that the rape charge remains under review and will proceed once advice is received from the Attorney-General’s Office.
ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for the Tema Regional Police Command, reaffirmed the service’s commitment to justice and public safety.
