Kwame Adinkrah to petition President Mahama for state funeral for Daddy Lumba

Morning show host of Pure FM, Dr Kwame Adinkrah, has hinted at plans to petition President John Dramani Mahama to organize a more befitting burial for the late highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.

Daddy Lumba was laid to rest on December 13, 2025, in the Ashanti Region. The burial was attended mainly by his children and Odo Broni. However, his maternal family boycotted the funeral after disagreeing with the Abusuapanin’s decision to proceed with the burial on that date.

Contrary to public expectations, the funeral did not attract the large number of dignitaries one would anticipate for an artiste of Daddy Lumba’s stature. The family dispute surrounding the burial is believed to have contributed to the low turnout.

Following the ceremony, concerns were raised by fans and industry stakeholders over the nature of the funeral, with many arguing that the celebrated musician, given his immense influence and contribution to Ghanaian music, deserved a more dignified send-off.

Speaking at a public event in Kumasi, Dr Kwame Adinkrah stated that Daddy Lumba merited a better funeral and revealed his intention to formally petition the President to ensure a befitting memorial is organized in honour of the late icon.

“I am sending a proposal to Mr President for a new funeral to be held in memory of Daddy Lumba. We must also ensure peace between the two women so they can live as one family, especially for the sake of the children,” he said, drawing loud applause from the crowd.
