Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign, says the restoration of power at the Akosombo hydro plant does not signal the end of Ghana’s electricity challenges, insisting that “dumsor existed before” the recent disruption.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, he criticised claims that the situation had been resolved, stating, “The impression has been created as if something is fixed and all of a sudden we are fine. Fixing Akosombo does not end anything.”
He argued that outages predated the fire incident, noting, “Before the Akosombo fire, there was already an energy crisis. My lights were going off three or four times a day,” and stressed that the problem cannot be blamed on a single event.
Mr Aboagye also raised concerns about public communication, saying expectations are being mismanaged. “When the same minister says issues in Kumasi have been resolved and people are still experiencing outages, then clearly expectations are being mismanaged,” he said.
Warning against premature conclusions, he added, “If Akosombo being fixed is being described as mission accomplished, then we are in trouble.”
