Police save NAM 1’s property from being burnt by Menzgold customers

The timely intervention of police saved property of beleaguered gold dealership company, Menzgold belonging to Nana Appiah Mensah otherwise known as NAM 1 from being burnt by angry customers in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Capital.

We gathered that the aggrieved customers in hundreds had petitioned the police for protection in order to enable them embark on a demonstration to register their protest against the company over their locked up cash.

Police indicated to the leadership they were unable to meet their demands but the customers without recourse to the directive by the police turned up in their numbers all clad in red and barricaded some roads with burning tyres with an attempt by some to set fire on the Menzgold offices.

Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service and the police arrived at the scene to put out fire from the burning tyres and were seen protecting the offices according to MyNewsGh.com’s Ashanti Regional correspondent.

Meanwhile, spokesperson of the coalition of aggrieved customers of Menzgold, Francis Owusu is calling on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to intervene in the matter as several persons have lost their livelihood to the company threatening more of such violent demonstrations in the future.

“It is going to be one of the mega protests that has even happened in this country because all the Menzgold customers across the country will be coming to Kumasi to protest against the insensitivity of our president towards our plight. We have petitioned Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on this issue and we have been to his office for about three times so we are going to send a letter of reminder to Otumfuo’s office,” he said.
