The Consultant for the Brazilian engineering and construction firm, Messrs Contracta Engineering Limited which built the multi-million dollar new Kejetia-Central Market has stated that blame can only be apportioned to the Manhyia Palace for the wrong erection of the wrong Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s statue.
According to him, Manhyia was hugely involved in every stage of the statue until it’s unveiling last week and that his outfit cannot be blamed for the shoddy work done.
The Consultant for the new Kejetia Market, city authorities on Thursday and Friday received a backlash from some Kumasi residents for refusing to ensure that the true image of the Asante King was erected.
The Consultant stressed that if the University’s Sculpture Department disappointed some Kumasi residents as well as descent of the Asante Kingdom by producing wrong statute of the revered Asante King, he cannot be blamed.
Pouring out his frustrations, he maintained that the statute could not have been unveiled if Manhyia was not pleased with the outcome what has been erected at the agreed location
“From the beginning of the project we got a green light from Manhyia before we awarded the contract to the KNUST sculpture department. Manhyia was involved in every stage until its completion. Let me tell you we couldn’t have unveiled the statue if Manhyia is dissatisfied with the work’’. He disclosed
He asserted that the statue can be viewed wrongly depending on the angle one stands.
