My Brother Killed By The Police Was A Military Man Not A Mad Man – Family Disputes Police Claims

Brother of an alleged mad man gunned down by the Akyem Kwabeng Police in the Eastern Region after besieging the Police station has disputed police reports about his brother being a known mad man.

According to the Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, the deceased stormed the police premises armed with a machete threatening to kill officers on duty.

A member of the SWAT team according to the police, when called in, shot the upper part of Owusu Anyimadu leading to his death after efforts to overpower him failed.

But speaking on Accra based Kingdom FM 107.7 evening news with Abena Korantemaa, brother of the deceased, Kwaning Banning insisted that, his brother never suffered from any mental illness contrary to the claims from the police.

He stated that his brother upon return to attend a funeral at Akyem Kwabeng complained of a severe headache but was not mentally sick.

Worried Mr. Banning added that, after the shooting of his brother, the officers then rushed him to the Engresi Government Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

He said his brother is 59-year-old military personnel was due for retirement next year.

The sad incident occurred on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at about 12:30 pm as the police described the man to be a known mad man.
