CORONAVIRUS: Akufo-Addo, first family test negative

Ghana’s President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has tested negative for coronavirus (Covid-19).

This was made known by his physician Dr Patrina Techi-Ankrah at a press briefing on Wednesday, April 1.

According to the president’s personal physician, Dr. Takyi Ankrah, the test was conducted immediately Mr. Akufo-Addo returned from his trip to Oslo, Norway.

“I am glad to say that the test results for the president came out negative,” she said.

The President’s physician further noted that the first family has also been tested for the virus with the results again being negative.

”We tested the President, the First Lady, his daughters and all his household and I am happy to announce that it all came out negative. A day after his birthday we continued to test people in the secretariat including myself because we turn to deal with him on one on one basis, as at now a total of 99 people have all tested negative, we will continue the process”.

As at 31 st March 2020, 15:00 hrs, nine (9) new cases of COVID-19 have been reported from NMIMR since the last update at 08:30hrs on 30th March 2020. All nine (9) were reported from Accra, three (3) of them travelled to Ghana within the past 14 days from Germany, France and Hungary respectively but for six (6) of them there is no history of travel outside.

Ghana as at April 1, 2020, has confirmed 195 cases of coronavirus (Covid-19) .

Out of the total confirmed cases, 106 were recorded from the general surveillance system, both in Accra and Kumasi, 79 from those on mandatory quarantine in Accra and 10 from those in mandatory quarantine in Tamale.
