Popular musician and political activist, Kwame A-Plus has said the decision of the Electoral Commission (EC) to reject old Voter IDs and birth certificates as forms of identification in registering for the new Voter Identification Cards is hypocritical.
His concern is that the primary document that makes one eligible to be a passport or Ghana card holder is the same birth certificate the EC is rejecting.
The EC, however argues that many people acquired these documents illegally.
But A Plus in a Facebook post said ”The electoral commission has said that it will not accept birth certificate and old voters ID as primary document for the new voter’s registration. This according to them is because many people acquired these documents illegally. The only documents which will be accepted are a passport or a Ghana card,” he wrote.
He continued, ”However, the primary document to get passport or a Ghana card is the same birth certificate people acquired fraudulently. You see, what the electoral commission is doing is like licking a woman but wearing a condom to prevent diseases.”
