The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Frederick Worsemao Armah Blay says former President John Dramani Mahama had no case when he was contesting the validity of the 2020 presidential result at the Supreme Court.
Freddie Blay said the former President was only riding on propaganda and grammar but not any substantial evidence to over-turn the declared presidential result by the Election Commission.
“Some of us knew the NDC had no case and yet they went to court just like the General Secretary said; ‘it was good they went to court.’ They drew people from the street; those who were burning ties, burning markets, and creating instability in this country. This country is a country of laws, so, it’s good the NDC realized it and went to court. Now, they’ve known their smoothness level”.
“They went to court and made it look like, as if, to talk grammar is the only thing that wins a case. They made it look like, as if, the only witness they wanted to have in the courtroom; {the] witness box was the commissioner for the EC, which is Jean Mensa. We (NPP) made it clear it was unnecessary. It didn’t add anything to their case but it was just their display and propaganda,” Mr Blay told the press after the Supreme Court’s verdict Thursday.
He also tasked the media to tell Ghanaians the incumbent won the 2020 presidential election by a landslide.
“The Judges have come to declare. By their judgement, what I will tell the media is, please let the people of this country know that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as president won and won progressively,” he said.

The Electoral Commission (EC) announced President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the winner of the December 7 polls on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, despite concerns raised by the NDC.
Mr Mahama subsequently declared the party’s unwillingness to accept the outcome of the presidential election.
He filed a lawsuit against the Electoral Commission and President Akufo-Addo. John Mahama prayed the apex court to declare as void the presidential results declared by the EC and also order for a re-run insisting none of the nine presidential candidates obtained the 50+1 vote constitutional threshold to secure the Jubilee House.
After 64 days of legal battle, the Supreme Court dismissed the election petition brought before it by John Dramani Mahama, the 2020 Presidential Candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“The petitioner did not demonstrate in any way how the errors [committed by the EC] affected the declaration of the election…We have therefore no reason to order a re-run [of the polls]. We accordingly dismiss the petition,” Chief Justice, Kwasi Anin-Yeboah said while reading the ruling of the court on Thursday, March 4, 2021.
