A Thirty-one (31) year mother -Ama Mary and her one-year-old baby Antivi Fiagara have died after a building collapsed on them in Akrobi’s old town in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region.
The incident occurred Monday 12th July 2021 around 8:00am.
Mr. Kwabena Badara Fiagara, the husband said, the incident happened after he left the house to search for food for the family
He admitted that the building was in deplorable condition but they were planning to evacuate to rent a new room.
“I was searching for a room this morning and she told me to get her some foodstuffs whiles she was also cleaning the house only to hear this sad news”, the husband added.
The NADMO officer who is the coordinator for the Akrobi zone, Mr. Abudu Mohammed said he warned the landlord four years ago that the house is not in good condition hence not habitable therefore must either be renovated or be pulled down; however, it was not heeded to.
Together with the Assembly Member, Hon. Winston Gyan and the NADMO Officials, their bodies were retrieved from the rubbles and deposited at Wenchi Methodist Hospital mortuary.
