It has emerged that the prime suspect in connection with the murder of 25-year-old Constable Sandra Asiedu at Damongo in the Savanah Region last weekend attempted suicide before taking to his heels.
The Amateur Obuasi-based footballer, Louis Asante alias Gago travelled back home to Obuasi after clandestinely taking the life of his girlfriend in her room after picking up a brawl with a yet to be known soldier whom he suspected was having an affair with the late policewoman.
Speaking to reporters at their family house in Obuasi yesterday, the father of the deceased, Mr. Victor Osei said “we were at the police station to make a complaint that Sandra had gone missing after a frantic search at Damongo, Obuasi and among her close friends for her went without success.”
“A while, the parents of Sandra’s boyfriend also came to the police station to report that their son had attempted to commit suicide and that they had found bloodstains on him, but took to his heels after been discovered”, Mr Osei added.
The Ghana Police Service has however sad it has mounted a manhunt for the boyfriend of the slain policewoman.
The Acting Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP. David Agyemang Adjem who visited the family yesterday assured them of the resolve of the Ghana Police Service to track down the suspect and bring him to justice.
It is unclear how the suspect managed to travel from Damongo back to Obuasi without being noticed despite having had so many bloodstains on him.
It has been rumored in the Obuasi Township that, it was Gago who secured Sandra’s recruitment into the Ghana Police Service with the assurance that they would get married later this year, but the family of the policewoman has expressly rejected those claims.
Meanwhile, Police in Obuasi who visited the scene at the residence of Louis Asante found that he tied a cable to a fan hook in his room but part of the cable tore which prevented him from committing suicide.
A knife and a blade with blood stains were found in his bathroom while his water closet was filled with blood.
The Police also found Nineteen (19) pairs of ladies’ footwear in a travelling bag believed to be for his late girlfriend.
Meanwhile, the Police have declared Loius Asante wanted and are on a manhunt
