Chief Imam Donates 50,000 Ghana Cedis To The Construction of The National Cathedra

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu has donated 50,000 Ghana cedis to support the construction of the National Cathedral.

The Chief Imam made the donation on Thursday, 26 August 2021, when the board of trustees for the National Cathedral project paid a courtesy call on him at his office.

This comes few days after the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Bawumia appealed to the general public, all Ghanaians, to help pool resources together for the construction of the National Cathedral at a thanksgiving event by the Presbyterian Church.

This gesture by the chief imam has received much applause especially he being a top clergyman and head of the Muslim community in Ghana and for contributing to a project that has received so much backlash from the populace including some Christians and Muslims alike. This goes to further strengthen the “unity” of both religious faiths and the need for all to live in peace and harmony.

Government launched a platform to encourage Ghanaians to contribute to the construction of the Cathedral when Ken Ofori Atta made the announcement during his presentation of the mid-year Budget reading in the Parliament of Ghana in July 2021, calling on all to contribute voluntarily 100 Ghana Cedis a month. The Cathedral is expected to be commissioned somewhere in March 2024.
