Media General’s ‘Maakye’ host, Blessed Godsbrain Smart, aka Captain Smart has called the bluff of the Ashanti Regional minister to sue him.
Simon Osei Mensah, has indicated Captain Smart has insulted him and he would resort to the court for retribution.
During the Onua TV/FM Morning Show’s (Maakye) team tour of the region at the various abandoned health facilities, the security personnel at Sewuah said they can’t permit the team entrance unless under the regional minister’s command.
The minister declined speaking to the team when they called him, lamenting his displeasure with Captain Smart to them for insulting him, for which he is going to sue him.
But on the morning show Tuesday, September 14, 2021, Mr. Smart dared the minister to exclude his employer –Media General –out of the suit if he intends doing so and sue him alone.
“Mr. Osei Mensah, if you are taking me to court, don’t add Media General to it. Sue me alone. I’m ready. When are you going to sue me?,” he dared.
He said Mr. Osei Mensah’s poor performance as a regional minister has left many hospitals in the bush whilst the residents suffer in accessing healthcare in the region.
Prior to the airing of the Sewuah facility, some other hospitals abandoned in the region, including the 500-bed capacity J.A. Kufuor 38 Military hospital at Afari –the largest military hospital in the world –as well as the newly built 250-bed capacity Konongo District hospital and an 800-bed capacity KNUST Teaching hospital, had all been shown already.
It is during the airing of these hospitals that the regional minister said the broadcaster has insulted him, amid allegations from Captain Smart that, he is making him (Osei Mensah) and the government unpopular.
Speaking further, Mr. Smart said after the airing of the KNUST Teaching Hospital, “any reasonable minister would have consulted the Asantehene to provide him with two of his chiefs, along with the Vice Chancellor of the university to go and inspect the project, because Otumfuo is the Chancellor of the school. Then you present the report to him to go through before you submit it to the president. But you didn’t and claim I’m insulting you. Take me court, I’ll meet you there.”
In 2019, during the graduation ceremony of the university, the Chancellor, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, raised the issue of the KNUST Teaching Hospital in particular, to President Akufo-Addo, who promised to seek to the completion of the project but has since remained in the bush.
