Armed robber jailed 15 years for stealing mobile phones

A man from Kwesimintsim, a suburb of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis who goes by the name of Prince Oppong, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Takoradi Circuit Court A on Tuesday, October 5.

Prince, who is an armed robber but pretends to be a tricycle rider on August 2, 2021, went to Agona Nkwanta, a town which is a few kilometres from Takoradi to rob a mobile phone shop.

According to reports, the robber parked his tricycle in front of the Abdulrahman Mobile Phones and Accessories before entering to go ask for prices of the phones.

After the prices were mentioned to him, he walked out of the shop and came back with weapons he removed from his tricycle and in the process, robbed the shop owner of nine (9) Android mobile phones.

Also, after the case was reported to the Agona Nkwanta Police, the accused went into hiding and abandoned the tricycle at the Agona lorry station.

It was then reported that an informant was activated during that period of time in the locality for the sake of information.

According to reports, with the assistance of the informant, the accused was arrested at Apowa, in the Effia-Kwimintsim Municipality when he was riding a different tricycle after which he was lured by a police officer pretending to be a passenger who needed his services.

The court presided over by Michael Cudjoe Ampedu, however, found Prince Oppong guilty at the end of the trial and sentenced him accordingly.
