Report reaching this portal indicates that rescue efforts are underway at Tribune mining site near Dompoase, off the Ehyireso road at Wassa Akropong in the Amenfi East Municipality of the Western Region after illegal mining commonly called Galamsey pit claimed three lives.
Officials believe more people might be trapped in the pit as efforts are ongoing to find them.
According to a report carried by Accra based radio station, Onua FM, three persons have been confirmed dead so far but it is unclear the number of missing persons.
The deceased were said to be visitors who have come to the community to work as it is very difficult to ascertain their identities.
The incident happened when the victims were trying to extract gold from the illegal pit.
Meanwhile, efforts have been made to removed three males from the pit as rescue mission was still ongoing to locate survivors.
