Public sector workers get 23% pay increase

The Finance Ministry has directed the Controller and Accountant-General to effect payment of the 23% salary increment negotiated last year to cover January to July this year.

Again, the Controller and Accountant-General is expected to adjust salaries by 2% from July to December this year.

These increases were negotiated between government and organised labour last year.

With the current increases in taxes, sources indicated that organised labour may be asking for a Cost-of-Living Allowance (COLA).

If government should grant the COLA, it will be the fourth time that various governments have agreed to cost of living allowance since 2015.

Meanwhile, organised labour and government are expected to begin another round of salary negotiations from October this year for the year 2025.
