The Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has criticised President Mahama for the massive dismissals recently undertaken by the government.
Some persons who were added on the government payroll after the December 07, 2024 general elections have had their appointments terminated by the government.
The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, issued a directive to heads of public institutions to reverse all of such appointments after the new government took over.
During his first State of the Nation Address (SoNA) in Parliament Thursday, February 27, 2025, the President touched on unemployment as one of the key issues his administration will be tackling.
He explained that the 24-hour economic policy which he intends rolling out will help create more jobs to reduce the incessant unemployment in the country.
Meanwhile, the Minority Leader, during his preliminary comments before seconding the Majority Leader’s motion for the House to be adjourned, chastised the President for orchestrating massive dismissals at the public sector whilst complaining of unemployment.
“Mr. Speaker, he (President Mahama) has today told us that we have 2.2 million Ghanaians unemployed. But what he has forgotten is that in his administration, in less than 100 days, all we know is ‘sack them, sack them, sack them, dismissal, dismissal, dismissal’.
Mr. Speaker, on the streets of Accra today, the youth of the country are saying that ‘Mahama baako, termination bebree!’.
