Mahama’s four months in office have exposed the lies they told to win power – Bawumia

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has stated that the deceit and lies employed by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to convince Ghanaians to vote them into power in the December 7 general elections have been exposed.

He noted that the performance of the ruling government within their first four months in government has proven their incompetence.

The 2024 presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) indicated that this presents an opportunity for the NPP to regain power in the 2028 general elections. He has therefore called for unity with the party so they will be able to secure victory in 2028.

Dr Bawumia was addressing party executives and sympathisers at Techiman during his ‘Thank You Tour’ in the Bono East Region.

He said that although the President Akufo-Addo-led government performed creditably, the NDC promised Ghanaians better living conditions, which influenced the electorates’ decision to vote for change; however, it has become evident that these promises cannot be fulfilled.

He opined, ‘Is it not surprising that the NDC’s much-touted 24-hour economy, which caught the attention of most voters, did not even appear in their 2025 budget, and they no longer mention it?’ The NDC has obviously deceived Ghanaians with sweet promises, and therefore, the masses are already calling for the NPP’s comeback.

The economist, on behalf of the NPP leadership and former government appointees, apologised to party members and Ghanaians for any wrongdoing while in office, pledging not to repeat them if given another opportunity, but called for stronger unity to build a more formidable force to recapture power in 2028.

“Have the costs of goods and services decreased? Has the price of cement dropped? Have electricity bills been reduced? They deceived us. They promised to increase the price of cocoa to Ghc7,000 per bag but failed to do so. They also promised to stop galamsey, but the issue has escalated. The government promised to implement the 24-hour economic policy, but has this policy been realized? They erected large billboards promoting the policy, yet it was omitted from their first budget. They have deceived Ghanaians.

“On behalf of the party, I am extending an apology. We are appealing to you all to forgive us for any wrongdoing. This incident will not recur. The party is well-positioned to win the 2028 general elections. We have learnt from our mistakes and will adopt a different approach. Should we emerge victorious, we will unveil novel policies. I am confident that 2028 will be a victorious year for our party. We anticipate returning to the office in 2028.”
