Military storms Takoradi Market Circle as traders prepare to relocate (Photos)

The Takoradi Market Circle is being prepared to be redeveloped into an ultra modern market as trading in the market seizes from Monday, May 3, till the new market is ready for use.

As traders are relocating to the new market, the military have been invited to supervise and make sure nobody trades and customers as well are prevented from entering into the market. The market will be permanently closed on Tuesday, May 4, as traders have up till May 10, 2021 to completely get rid of their items and relocate to the temporary site and start their new life of business there.

This new development by the city authorities have not been received in good faith by some of the traders as they lament over neglect and lack of selling spaces at the new market. Some of the traders claim they have not yet being given a place to sell as others complain over how under developed and inappropriate it is to sell at the place.

Speaking to one of the market women, she expressed that the city authorities are taking money before they give you a portion to use for your trade, but some people who are not traders in the market have paid money and being given portions to sell leaving the real market women stranded.

Another also expressed her grievances saying, they have realised they are not a priority to the city authorities as they are not abiding to what was earlier planned. She claim the authorities are taking bribes from some unknown people who are not original traders of the market which stores and portions meant for them are rather been given to these strangers.

According to the Sekondi-Takoradi Mayor, the major construction works will start next month and the city authorities have to meet the deadline given to them by the contractor on the relocation of the traders.

The City Mayor of Sekondi-Takoradi, Abdul Mumin Issah disclosed at a meeting with the leadership of the Market women on work done so far at the new location.
He indicated the project is about 90 percent complete and pleaded with the women to bear with the Assembly.

He said the time given to the Contractor to move all the Women from the market is long over due and they have stick to the new date for the final relocation exercise on the 10th of next month.
