Train kills 85-year- old at Ketan

A cargo train carrying manganese from Tarkwa to the Takoradi harbor has killed an 85 year old man at Ketan, a suburb of Sekondi in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly.

The incident happened on Thursday 20th May 2021 at 6:25pm when the 85 year old man who was sitting in the rails 100 meters away from his house was hit.

According to Casum Mingle Bermah, Assembly Member of Ketan Electoral area and relative to the deceased Ekow Emissah, the victim normally sits in the rails closer to his house sometimes for fresh air or when he is probably coming from town or anywhere he visited towards his house, “he sits there for sometime before he goes home”

The Assembly Member expressed shock over the death of his relative because that has been the victim’s habit and he least expected that such an ordeal could happen to his grandfather on a rail line. h
‘ I am surprised that he was kill by a train, he normally sits on the rail lines especial when he is returning from town or from a visit within the vicinity, I don’t know what happened this time around, he leaves in his family house which is 100meters away from the rails .

He also shared how the family escaped a Gh 4000 fine from the Ghana Railway Company.

“We took personal responsibility to remove the remains, which had been torn apart, Ghana Rail Company could have charged us Gh 4000 for the death of the deceased because sitting on a rail line is unlawful act and it attract a penalty of GH 4000”

The Corpse has been deposited at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital Pending investigation.

The victim did not leave behind children.
