Provide armoured billion vans or we withdraw-IGP

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) James Oppong-Boanuh has reminded the association of bankers in the country to provide fortified armoured vehicles to cart cash across the country by June ending or have the police withdraw their escort duties.

Mr. Oppong-Boanuh made the call following the killing of the police officer Constable Emmanuel Osei and one other person by suspected armed men during bulk cash transfer at James in Accra.

A press statement dated 14 June 2021 and signed by Superintendent of Police, Director, Public Affairs, Sheilla Kessie Abayie-Buckman, the IGP has directed the Director-General Criminal Investigation Department to take over the investigation into the attack on the bullion van which occurred on 14th June 2021 at James Town which led to the murder of the police officer.

Mr. Oppong-Boanuh also urged the public to provide information on the suspects as they probe into the incident.
