Will criminalizing LGBTQI+ fix Ghana’s unemployment? – Gabby quizzes MPs

A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has expressed worry over the fact that some Members of Parliament(MPs) with all Ghana’s problems are pushing for LGBTQI+ activities to be criminalized.

Eight members of Ghana’s Parliament have jointly submitted a private bill to push for the criminalization of LGBTQI+ activities in the country.

The bill, which they term as a ‘Bill on the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values’, was presented to Speaker, Alban Bagbin on Tuesday, June 29, 2021.

The proponents of the bill want the promotion, advocacy, funding, and acts of homosexuality to be criminalized in the country.

But commenting on the bill, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko who is a leading member of the governing NPP cannot fathom why some lawmakers are fixated on peoples choice of having sex considering Ghana’s numerous challenges. To him, he questions whether criminalizing LGBTQI+ activities will solve the challenges of unemployment in the country.
