Akufo-Addo has no intention to cancel Free SHS – Finance Minister

Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has disclosed that President Akufo-Addo has no plan of reviewing the free SHS programme.

He made this known on March 24, 2022 when addressing Ghanaians on government’s response to the economic hardship in the country including fuel price hikes. In a recent interview, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said that all the 16 flagship programs of the government are up to be looked at.

“All the 16 flagship programs are up to be looked at. The President has directed that the flagship programs should be protected and fully implemented to ensure that the impact is achieved, he told Citi FM.

However, he wants it done within the constraints of item number 2 which is the fiscal framework we are working with. If based on the caps that we are working with we will have to rescope a particular flagship program, we will do it and see how much we can achieve.”

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2017 launched the Free Senior High School Policy in fulfilment of his campaign promise in 2017.
