The Ghana Education Service (GES) has refuted claims suggesting that it has introduced an official uniform for Ghanaian teachers across the country.
The disclaimer follows the emergence of pictures of teachers of Akwasiase Methodist Primary School in the Ahafo Ano North Municipality, Ashanti Region on social media wearing uniforms.
A statement issued by GES on Sunday (10 April ) said the service will not introduce a uniform for teachers without engaging the teacher unions.
“GES is one of the largest government agencies in Ghana. We employ more than half of all government employees. If we want to introduce uniforms for teachers we won’t do that through social media and over the weekend,” it said in a Facebook post.
“In this era of unionised labour, GES cannot introduce a uniform for teachers without engaging the teacher unions,” it added.
