People who publish falsehood about the cedi will be dealt with – Akufo-Addo warns

President Nana Akuffo Addo has warned that people who publish false news about the cedi on WhatsApp and other social media platforms, causing fear and panic in Ghanaian citizens, will be dealt with by relevant agencies.

The President, in his address on how the government intends to solve the economic crisis on Sunday, October 30, 2022, said that he had noticed some audio speculations on the cedi by some anonymous individuals spread on social media, which are predicting a government haircut and causing fear and panic among Ghanaians.

He urged that the information be disregarded as it is false and that whoever is found guilty of being the mastermind behind the spread of any falsehood on the cedi will be dealt with.

“To those who make it a habit to publish falsehoods, which results in panic in the system. I say to them that the relevant state agencies will act against such people, “he stated.

President Akuffo Addo called on all Ghanaians to play their part in strengthening the cedi by having confidence in the currency and avoiding speculation.
