Special voting for Eastern and Western Regions rescheduled to December 5

The Electoral Commission (EC) has rescheduled the Special Voting exercise for the Eastern and Western Regions following the recall of ballot papers for the presidential and parliamentary elections.

Initially set for Monday, December 2, the Special Voting for these regions will now take place on Thursday, December 5. The announcement was made by EC Chairperson Jean Mensa during an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting in Accra on Sunday, December 1.

Jean Mensa explained that the decision was prompted by the detection of a broken seal on electoral materials in the Eastern Region.

Although there were no reported issues with the Western Region’s ballot papers, the printing press responsible for the Eastern Region ballots also handled those for the Western Region. As a precautionary measure, the EC recalled and ordered the reprinting of ballot papers for both regions.

Special Voting across the rest of the country will proceed as scheduled on December 2.

The EC reassured stakeholders of its commitment to maintaining a credible electoral process and appealed for patience and cooperation from all parties involved.
