Asantehene resumes mediation of Bawku crisis today at Manhyia Palace

Mediation efforts to address the ongoing Bawku conflicts resume today under the leadership of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene.

The peace talks, agreed upon by all parties involved in the conflict, will be held from April 28 to May 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, renowned for his distinguished record in conflict resolution, has been entrusted with guiding dialogue toward a lasting solution for the people of Bawku in the Upper East Region, an area that has endured years of tension and violence.

In a statement, the Asantehene urged all stakeholders to participate in the mediation with a spirit of unity and cooperation, stressing that collaboration is essential to achieving lasting peace.

“I request all stakeholders to cooperate so that we can find a lasting peace in Bawku,” Otumfuo said.

The mediation comes as part of ongoing efforts by the government and traditional authorities to bring an end to the ethnic and political violence that has plagued Bawku for years.

The success of this process hinges on the willingness of all parties to engage in constructive dialogue.

The Manhyia Palace, the seat of the Asantehene, will serve as the central venue for discussions, and representatives from various factions in the Bawku crisis are expected to attend.

The mediation is viewed as a significant opportunity for all parties to lay down their differences and work towards long-term peace.
