Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III is dead

The Asante Kingdom is in mourning following the death of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

The Oyoko Royal Family officially confirmed her passing to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, during an emergency Asanteman Traditional Council meeting on Monday.

Born Nana Ama Konadu, she was the 14th Asantehemaa and the biological sister of the current Asantehene. She ascended to the stool five years ago after the death of her mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, who served as the Asantehemaa before her.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III was revered for her wisdom, strength, and steadfast commitment to tradition. She played a vital role in preserving Asante culture, offering counsel and unwavering support to her brother’s reign.

Her presence at the Manhyia Palace was a unifying force, symbolising stability within the royal family and across the broader Asanteman.

Although details remain limited, family sources indicate she passed away at dawn on August 7, 2025.

The Manhyia Palace is expected to release an official statement in due course, including funeral arrangements, once all traditional protocols and rites associated with the passing of royalty have been observed.
