Southampton Sign Kamaldeen Sulemana For Club-Record Fee

Southampton Football Club has announced a club-record signing of Kamaldeen Sulemana from Rennes, subject to a work permit and international clearance.

The Ghana international has completed a deadline-day transfer from the Ligue 1 side on a contract until 2027 worth £22 million.

He becomes the fourth signing for Nathan Jones’s squad in the January window, following the arrivals of Mislav Oršić, Charly Alcaraz and James Bree.

Having played youth football in Ghana, Sulemana moved to Denmark to join FC Nordsjælland in 2020, making an immediate impact as he scored 14 times in 42 appearances.

His impact at the Danish club did not go unnoticed as a number clubs sought to capture him — Rennes signed him in 2021, where he made 47 appearances and contributing six goals.

Kamaldeen received his first call-up for the Ghana Black Stars on 25 September 2020 and made his debut in a 3–0 friendly loss to Mali on 9 October 2020.

The 20-year-old has so far made 15 appearances for Ghana including two appearances at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Southampton manager Nathan Jones said: “This is another really positive addition for us this month. We’ve obviously been keen to add a little more potency to the side, and Kamaldeen is someone who does that for us.

“He’s at a stage in his career where we feel he can help us in the immediate term, but also continue to grow and develop further into the future.”
