You were just a pastor organising prayers on parks when NPP was formed – Alan boys descend on Wontumi

Two vocal supporters of Alan John Kyerematen, a hopeful flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have issued a warning to Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, who is popularly known as Chairman Wontumi. They have urged him to stop acting as if he has complete control over the party.

James Nana Prempeh, the Revenue Convener of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and former KMA Presiding Member, Abraham Boadi (Opooman), have criticized the behavior of the Ashanti NPP, stating that Chairman Wontumi is acting as if he is the founder of the NPP.

During an appearance on the Oyerepa Breakfast Show, hosted by Sometymer Otuo Acheampong, the duo from Alan Kyerematen’s camp expressed their disapproval of how Wontumi compelled NPP delegates in Oforikrom to endorse Bawumia.

Opooman stated, “Chairman Wontumi has pocketed NPP in Ashanti as if it is his personal property.”

He further emphasized that Wontumi has dominated all the top officials of the Ashanti NPP, despite not being involved in its establishment in 1992.

Abraham Boadi revealed that Chairman Wontumi was previously a pastor who organized prayer sessions on football fields in Ahinsan, located in the Asokwa Municipality.

“NPP was established in 1992, and by 1994, I had obtained my party card. At that time, Wontumi was merely a pastor organizing prayer gatherings at Ahinsan School Park, completely unrelated to politics,” Opooman told Sometymer.

He further stated that he together with Nana Prempeh (Alan boys) without fear or intimidation will make sure Wontumi moves in the right direction in order not to break the party going into the 2024 polls.

“We’re not afraid of anyone here in Kumasi” He boldly said.

Nana Prempeh on the other hand said Chairman Wontumi should have been suspended long ago because he has consistently contravened the party’s guidelines and principles.
