The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party has hit back at Mr. John Mahama for promising to building hospitals.
Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako claims that Mr. Mahama only built fake hospitals in his party’s Green Book.
According to the NPP Chairman also known as Chairman Wontumi, the former President lied to Ghanaians he had completed certain hospitals and can never be trusted to deliver.
“You built fake hospitals in your Green Book. Point to Ghanaians where the hospitals you completed are. We want to see them and not the artistic impressions you compiled in your Green Book”, Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako said.
Speaking to Wontumionline.com, the business and media mogul praised President Akufo-Addo for giving Ghana a facelift in our health sector. He mentioned that the recent revelation by President Akufo-Addo to build 88 new hospitals was a testament that he cared for our health.
In his 8th address to the nation on measures taken to prevent the spread of coronavirus in Ghana, President Akufo-Addo touched on plans for the construction of new hospitals.
According to the President, “We must do something urgently about this. That is why Government has decided to undertake a major investment in our healthcare infrastructure, the largest in our history. We will, this year, begin constructing eighty-eight (88) hospitals in the districts without hospitals.
“It will mean ten (10) in Ashanti, nine (9) in Volta, nine (9) in Central, eight (8) in Eastern, seven (7) in Greater Accra, seven (7) in Upper East, five (5) in Northern, five (5) in Oti, five (5) in Upper West, five (5) in Bono, four (4) in Western North, four (4) in Western, three (3) in Ahafo, three (3) in Savannah, two (2) in Bono East, and two (2) in North East Regions,” he added.
John Mahama Reacts
Following his speech, former President Mahama reacted by stating that he has personally made the same promise to Ghanaians in 2019.
Last Thursday during his Facebook address, Mr. Mahama stated that: “The reaction of the public to the President’s promise to construct 94 new hospitals in one year is understandable…” adding that “It is in furtherance of this vision that I announced on my visit to the Western North and Bono East Regions in July 2019 that if elected, God-willing in December 2020, I will establish a regional hospital in each of the six newly-created regions.
“I also indicated that I will ensure the provision of a modern health facility in each district that currently does not have one as part of my ‘health for all agenda’”, Mr Mahama recalled.
He explained: “All districts would receive a modern health facility. These facilities would range from polyclinics to district hospitals”, noting: “Proper planning requires that we take into consideration location, demography, population and health needs of the area”.
