Ghana’s embassy in Washington DC to reopen May 29 after structural reforms

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has announced that Ghana’s Embassy in Washington DC, which was temporarily shut down over visa fraud activities, will be reopened on May 29, 2025.

According to the statement, following the recall of staff and suspension of local staff of the embassy, a team of ‘’seasoned diplomats’ led by a team lead from the ministry has been tasked with the responsibility of managing the office.  The team is to ensure a total overhaul of the systems, restore integrity in the operations of the embassy and complete what the ministry described as ongoing structural reforms.

The ministry further disclosed that an information technology (IT) team has been deployed to reconfigure the website and payment platforms to do away with all unofficial and unauthorised IT systems.
