The Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Kwabena Nyandoh, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama and his brother, Ibrahim Mahama, to raise the GH¢50 million bail required to release the embattled Regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, from the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Chairman Wontumi remains in custody after his legal team failed to meet the bail conditions imposed by the agency 48 hours ago. Wontumi is currently under investigation for alleged involvement in multiple criminal offences, including fraud, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering. Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem-Sai has revealed that a second phase of the investigation reportedly links Wontumi to a wider international organised crime syndicate.
