Pupils of Central Agric Station Primary School in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti Region have had to flee their classrooms on several occasions just to avoid snake bites.
The disturbed pupils who study in the dilapidated six (6) classroom block which has become a death trap said the snakes enter their classrooms from bushes and force them out of their classrooms.
The six classroom block which was built in 2007 by the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwadaso Constituency, Hilda Addo is now a death trap due to the lack of renovation.
Pure FM’s Osei Kwadwo Ambassador reported that the dilapidated school building could collapse anytime soon.
The pupils explained that they feel uncomfortable attending to school due to poor condition of the classroom block.
“Some of our friends are now staying home without coming to school because of state of the school. The condition of the school is very bad,” the pupils complained.
According to the pupils, teachers of the school have to close them each time the clouds gather and threaten to unleash its contents.
“Our lives are in danger. We are appealing to authorities to come to our aid to avoid any disaster. Snakes are also chasing us from our classrooms,” they said.
The headmistress of the school, Mrs. Justina Nti Agyekum expressing the school grievances said the state of the school is affecting teaching and learning.
According to her, some parents have threatened to withdraw their children from the school due to the state of the school.
“All the pillars supporting the classroom are weak which is making the situation dangerous. We are forced to close the pupils anytime it threatens to rain and the students do not come to school when it rains. The situation is so pathetic.
“I have written several appeals to the authorities, the MP and the MCE for Kwadaso, but we are yet to hear from them. We are appealing to stakeholders and authorities to come to our aid,” she appealed.
The school also lacks basic facilities like library, water and teaching and learning material.
