Dozens of dolphins washed up on Axim Beach (video)

Dozens of dolphins have been washed ashore at Brewire, a suburb of the Upper Axim Traditional Area in the Nzema East Municipality in the Western Region.

It was reported on Sunday, April 4, 2021 that, more than 50 dolphins have been washed up on the shores of Brewire, which is also closer to the Ankobra beach. The incident that is very rare was the first time the community experienced anything of that kind.

The cause for this unfortunate incident is yet to be known but was supposed by some of the fishermen in the area that, either there have been a contamination in the sea by oil or the animals have feasted on a poisonous meal which has led to their untimely death.

Also, incident of this nature is becoming common in Ghana as thousands of strange fishes were washed ashore on the Osu beach in the Greater Accra Region on Friday April 2, 2021.

The Dolphin incident is the latest to hit the country and authorities are trying to figure out the cause of the sudden death of the sea creatures in the Ghana waters in higher numbers.

Speaking to an eye witness, he made it known that, at about 12pm was when he heard the news that dolphins have been washed ashore which he run to have a look. At about the time he got there, it was only 10 dolphins on the shore and as time went on, the number of the dolphins increased to about 50 as more kept on coming till 4pm.

Moreover, the chief and the people of Brewire, in the Upper Axim Traditional Area are calling on authorities responsible for the sector to immediately investigate the situation, find the course and put up measures to protect and save other sea creatures.
